C or 2SC NPN Transistor

This is the part number and standard codes for transistors. The letter “C” printed in front of the transistor is European, while 2SC is Japanese code. These code applies to “A”, “B”, “D”, “J”, “K” and etc. That means if you have a faulty J516 and the electronic supplier gave you a 2SJ, you have to take it as this part spec is the same as J516. The problem now we are facing is that certain manufacturers prefer to use their own codes and make us confused if we don’t refer to a data book or internet for its data or specification.


Let’s take the horizontal output transistors (HOT) as an example. Nowadays we have seen lots of HOT used in Monitors (and TV too) with the part number as BU2508DF, BU 2708DX, B4522AX and etc. If you refer to the data book and begin to search for “B” (you thought it was a PNP transistor), you may end up could not find one because it was a NPN transistor! In future please take note of the part number as mentioned earlier some manufacturers do not follow the standard code anymore. got another example: J6812 is a Npn transistor and not a FET. Please take note of this!
