About Resistor In Circuit Board



Have you come across why some resistors (usually 1/2 watt and below) were soldered directly on the board while to some resistors (usually 1 watt and above) the manufacturers purposely let the leg extended far from the circuit board as seen from the photo below? The reason for it is to avoid interference cause by resistor put too close to the circuit line which located behind the board- that’s what some expert said. So far i have not seen any of this problem yet (interference to the Monitor display) if i put the resistor (greater than 1 watt) just on top of the board instead of purposely leave the longer resistor leg from the circuit board

Smallest Variable Resistor



This is the smallest variable resistor I’ve ever seen. It has the size like a small potentiometer/preset as seen from the photo. For a normal type of variable resistor it has the size like a 10 cent coin. If you have ever come across any smaller size of variable resistor than the above picture

Resistors In Series



Have you ever come across resistor values that you can’t get from your local electronic suppliers? I believe you would definitely came across one if you have been a seasoned electronic repairer. Those values are different from the one that you can easily find from the market. Let’s take this for example, you can easily get 10, 12, 15 18, 22 , 27 ohms ….from the market but what if you found a resistor that is rated at 24 ohm opened circuit and it is located in the power supply section? You can’t get it from the market so what would you do?

Simple, just connect two 12 Ohms resistor in series and you will get 24 ohms. If you read the basic electronic books there are formula given not only in series but for parallel too! So in future don’t despair if you can’t find the original value for the equipment. Use either resistor in series or parallel will usually find the solution. Isn’t electronics is interesting

6 Band Resistor Color Code



Have you seen a 6 band resistor before? Yes i came across only few of it and found it in the CRT monitor circuit! I have forgotten which model because it was few years ago.
